An award-winning communications executive with multiple years of experience leading, supporting and coaching executives and communications and marketing teams in various industries, Paul Thies is adept at crafting highly commercial content and connecting people and resources to drive positive results.
Thies’ corporate communications background includes overseeing the thought leadership digital and print publications for Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading source of business intelligence services. In this role, he produced, edited and directed content on trending topics that reached audiences around the globe via the company’s web properties, mobile app, annual report and print magazines. This position demanded that he worked regularly with the company’s executive leadership and frequently brought him into contact with 3rd party executives and industry experts to host discussions and interviews on the ever-evolving conditions of global commerce.
Before this role, he led the external and internal communications function for Thomson Reuters billion-dollar tax and accounting unit with a special emphasis on public relations, thought leadership, employee communications and executive engagements.
Prior to Thomson Reuters, Thies oversaw the communications and public relations efforts for Stream Energy, a residential and commercial energy firm. In the eight years at which he was employed there, the firm grew from a start-up to a $900 million dollar enterprise. His responsibilities included interfacing with the media, consumers, sales agents and employees as spokesperson and communications lead in a heavily regulated and media-scrutinized industry, managing the firm’s philanthropic efforts and directing the firm’s online reputation and search engine optimization efforts through daily management of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other relevant social media tools.
Earlier in his career, Thies was responsible for directing the global communications for Excel Telecommunications, one of the largest U.S. telecommunications firms of its day. In this role, he supervised a team of six professionals and a multi-million-dollar budget for six countries, three languages (English, German and Dutch), numerous web sites and the company’s international publications.
